Smoky Eye Tutorial

Smoky Eye Tutorial

For my first tutorial, I decided to do a smoky eye since it’s a classic trend and a look that a lot of people have trouble creating. This look can be tricky, but with a bit of practice and lots of blending, you’ll have sultry, smoky eyes in no time! Just make sure you’re not going out the first time you try it!

(Note: the pictures didn’t quite capture the intensity, so it looks like a much softer smoky eye than I intended – the black eye liner looks gray…if anyone has photo tips, please share :) )

This look is designed for smaller eyes, although it will work for those of you lucky enough to to have big, wide eyes. The trick  to opening up your eyes is to concentrate the color on the outer corner of your eyes near the lash line and keep the inner corner light with a highlight shadow.

So let’s get started! I’m going to be using the following eye shadows/liners: Silk, Mystique, Sultry, and Little Black Dress.

Natural Mineral Smoky Eye Kit

Prep: Apply a drop of natural primer to your lids and below your lower lash line. Blend with your finger as it dries. This will allow you to build more intensity with the shadows and help them last longer.

Step 1: With the Eye Shadow Brush, apply Mystique eye shadow on your lid up to the middle of your brow bone, and 3/4 of the way to your inner corner. Using the larger end of the Double-End Smudger Brush, apply Mystique below your lower lash line. Blend outer edges.

Step 2: With the  Eye Shadow Brush, apply Sultry eye shadow to your crease, blending into Mystique. Then use the smaller end of the Double-End Smudger Brush to apply Sultry to your upper and lower lash line, blending.

Tip: Try to concentrate the pigment towards the outer corner and taper it towards the inner corner.

Step 3: With the Eye Shadow Brush, apply Silk eye shadow to your brow bone and the inner third of your eyelid, blending into Mystique. Use the larger end of the Double-End Smudger to apply Silk to your inner corner, blending outwards.

(Don’t forget to wipe off the brushes first since you’re switching to a lighter color.)
