Does mineral makeup have a best before date?

Our mineral makeup only contains minerals, so there is nothing for bacteria to feed on. Theoretically, this means that it can be stored indefinitely; however, as soon as you start using it, you introduce your own skin oils and bacteria into the mix, so the usual rules apply: it should be used within 2 years.

Our lip glosses and other products that contain non-mineral ingredients do have a best before date. Because we use only natural and organic ingredients, they won't last as long as chemically-preserved products. Here are some general guidelines for after the product has been opened:

Lip Gloss: 6-12 months
Lipstick: 12-18 months
Primer: 3-6 months
Mascara: 3 months

I have rosacea and sensitive skin. Are your products suitable for my skin?

Absolutely! I have rosacea and sensitive skin myself, so I developed the products to be sensitive-skin friendly. I don't use any ingredients that are common irritants such as bismuth oxychloride or silica. Even the brushes are soft and non-irritating. I've always had trouble finding brushes that didn't scratch and irritate my skin, but these don't.

Also, the foundation does an excellent job of covering the redness of rosacea. I usually apply 2-3 light layers of foundation with the powder brush and then go over any red spots with the denser concealer brush. Easy and effective!

Are your products gluten-free?

I don't use any ingredients that contain gluten; however, all products are made by me in my home which is not gluten-free. I use separate equipment and disinfect all surfaces; however, some people are sensitive to even the gluten particles that can float in the air. You can make a decision based on this information about whether the products are right for you and your own sensitivity level.

My eye shadow doesn't stick/sticks too much. What's going on?

Mineral makeup is very sensitive to the oil balance of your skin. If you find that the shadow is not sticking as much as you would like, it probably means that your skin is on the dry side. To fix this, you can either apply a light moisturizer to your eyelids (making sure to wait until it has absorbed before applying eye shadow) or you can use our eye primer. For an intense look, apply the primer at full strength. For a more natural look, dilute with water and then apply.

If you find that the shadow is sticking too much, it probably means that your skin is on the oily side (or you're trying to apply it at the end of a hot, sticky day). To fix this, you can either wash your face with a mild cleanser or wipe your eyelids gently with a soft face cloth. This will usually leave just enough oil on your lids to make the eye shadow stick and blend nicely.

What is mineral makeup?

Mineral makeup is a broadly used term that applies to all makeup that is made using minerals. Not all mineral makeup is the same, though. Most of the large commercial mineral brands contain minerals, but they also contain artificial dyes, carmine, and ferric ferrocyanide. Often, their minerals are also micronized, a process that creates nano-sized particles, which have not been properly tested for safety. Our makeup is not just mineral makeup – it's natural mineral makeup. We don't use any artificial dyes or micronized minerals.

How Do I clean Makeup Brushes?

Makeup brushes should be cleaned every couple of weeks to remove the buildup of facial oils on your brush. You can clean brushes with a gentle facial cleanser and warm water. Wet the brush and drop a small amount of cleanser into the palm of your hand. Gently swirl the brush on your palm to work the cleanser into the bristles, then rinse. Repeat until water runs clean. Lay brushes flat to dry.

How do I use refills?

First, make sure you can remove the sifter before ordering. Some jar sizes are more difficult than others. You can use a fork or something similar to help. Next, wash the container and sifter and let them dry completely (a microfibre cloth is great for removing residue without scratching the jar). Then, cut a small corner off the refill bag and let the powder fall into the jar.

note: foundation refills look a lot smaller even though they contain the same amount of product because they are compressed into bags for transport. Following the final step above will re-fluff the powder so it applies smoothly.

Do you have samples?

Yes! On every product page, you will find sample sizes available. Each sample contains enough product to use once or twice, so you can see if the product is right for you before buying the full size.
